PHOTODYNAMIC THERAPYPhotodynamic Therapy (PDT) represents a huge advancement in non-ablative skin care. PDT is rapidly becoming the "gold standard" to which all other treatments are compared. It involves the application of Levulan (5-ALA), a photosensitizing agent to the skin which is then activated by a light service which results in remodeling of the skin. Levulan PDT has FDA approval for treating actinic keratosis (AK's) which are precancerous skin lesions. It has been shown to dramatically improve actinic damaged skin, sundamaged skin, and moderate to severe acne. Additionally, it improves pore size, wrinkles, skin texture, pigmentation, rosacea, sebaceous hyperplasia, and potentially prevents the development of skin cancer.
